Use the Browser Check
FerrisConnect has a browser check feature which will ensure that your browser is configured so the complete functionality of FerrisConnect is available to you. This feature checks five things which are crucial for your browser to perform properly with FerrisConnect.
To run the browser check:
- Log into FerrisConnect (you can be in a course or on the My Blackboard page).
- Click on the check browser link in the upper right-hand corner.
- A new window will pop up to check your browser, cookies, Java script, pop-up blockers and Java.
- If you have any errors, the browser check will use a red X to indicate where mandatory or recommended changes are needed.
- If you need to make any changes, you can use the links available to you in the browser check or contact the Technical Assistance Center at 231.591.4822.
Request a "Live" FerrisConnect Course
To request a course in FerrisConnect you must submit the FerrisConnect course request form. You will need the CRN for each section which will have a FerrisConnect course space.
- Log into MyFSU.
- Click on the Academics & Services or the Faculty Services tab.

- Select the FerrisConnect course request form.
Your course will take approximately 5 - 10 minutes to create depending on the level of server activity.
Deny Student Access
When a live FerrisConnect course is created on the server, the enrolled students are automatically added to the course space. Instructors may choose to prevent students from accessing the course before the start date by denying student access.
To deny student access to a FerrisConnect course:
- Log into the course in FerrisConnect.
- Select the Teach tab and click on the Grade Book within the Instructor Tools.
- Select the students within the grade book to be denied access by checking the box next to the students’ names.
- Click on the deny access button located in the lower right side of the grade book window.
- Repeat the process to allow student access on the first day of class, only select the grant access button.
Hide Un-enrolled Students
Students are automatically enrolled in their FerrisConnect courses as the courses are created. When a student drops a course, his or her name remains in the FerrisConnect course grade book. Instructors may choose to hide the student’s grades within the grade book view.
To hide un-enrolled students:
- In the FerrisConnect course, select the Teach tab and click on the Grade Book within the Instructor Tools.
- Click the Grade book Options button.
- Select Hide Un-enrolled Member Data.
Copy Course Content
You can copy the content you have already prepared in one course section in FerrisConnect to another.
To copy content into a new course:
- Enter your new course in FerrisConnect.
- Four options are presented the first time you enter a new course. Select the second option, copy content from another course, and click continue.
- Select the course with the content you want to copy and then click continue. FerrisConnect will copy everything into the new section.
