The Calendar
From FerrisConnect KnowledgeBase
This lesson will introduce the learner to the Calendar tool and its use in scheduling events and activities within FerrisConnect.
Learning outcomes
When finished with this section the learner will be able to...
- create entries on the course calendar
- create entries for repeating events on the course calendar
Configuring the Calendar tool
The Calendar tool is available in all three tabs. However, instructors should use the Teach tab, as opposed to the Student View tab. If an instructor inadvertently posts a calendar entry in the student view it will appear that the Demo Student posted the entry rather than the instructor.
Instructors may configure the Calendar settings for their section to permit students to make entries to the calendar, and to determine if they should be public or private entries. By default, public calendar entries are permitted by students.
Activity - Configure Calendar Settings Select the calendar tool using the Teach tab. Click on the "calendar Settings" button. Un-check the checkbox next to "Allow student public entries". Click on the "save" button.
Linking Events and Activities to the Calendar
The Calendar tool allows an instructor to link an event (calendar posting) to existing course content, assignments, assessments, and other FerrisConnect features. Instructors may also use the calendar tool to remind students of recurring events.
Activity: Recurring Event - Virtual Office Hours Use the course calendar to schedule virtual office hours over the next three months. Select the Calendar tool under the Teach tab. Click on the "Add Entry" button. Enter a title for your posting, such as "Virtual Office Hours", and a description - (e.g. I will be available online via the Chat tool every Tuesday from 2 - 4 PM this semester). Scroll down to click on the "More Options" link. Under "recurrance" check "This entry repeats..." and check Tuesdays. You may also select the chat room under "Add Content Link" to assist students with accessing the chat tool.
