Tabs and Roles

A user's role in FerrisConnect determines what is displayed upon entering a course section. If the user's role is that of designer, the Build tab and the Student View tab are visible. If the user is an instructor, they will find a Teach tab along with the Student View tab. Many users will have both designer and instructor roles and will therefore see all three tabs: Build, Teach, and Student View.

The Build tab displays the course tools, as well as the Designer tools used to modify the course layout and manage tool settings.

The Teach tab allows access to those tools needed to interact with students, including the Grade Book, Assessments, and Assignments.

The Student View allows the designer/instructor to see what the student sees. By using the Student View an instructor can check whether their assignments or assessments are properly configured and available to students.

Course Tools

Which tools are displayed in the course tools area is determined by the tools selected by the designer. Course designers may select which tools are visible by using the Manage Course >> Tools link under the Build tab.
