Module 1: Getting Started:

Learning Outcomes:

  • explain which functions take place on the Build, Teach, and Student View tab
  • identify areas of your course: Home Page, Course Tools, and Instructor Tools
  • use ActionLinks menus to access items, hide items from students, and add or edit descriptions

New Stuff to be added to Module #1

   * MyFSU, new log-in access site to FerrisConnect. (Single sign-in soon)
   * Browser Check, new & easier Browser Ck Tool -- new platform more sensitive to Pop-Up Blockers.
   * Java version, Caution/Warning about new Java

   * Have faculty request shell needed for their Production Site

Learning Outcomes:

  • create goals.
  • organize and deliver course content in learning modules.
  • cutomize the Action Menu of your learning modules.
  • create, edit, and manage files in the File Manager.

Module 3: Keeping Students Informed

Learning Outcomes:

  • identify the eight factors that are critical to student success in online courses. (could this be a good place to introduce the Best Practices?)
  • create a Syllabus.
  • use the Calendar to post a schedule of class-related events.
  • create announcements.
  • describe ways that you can use Announcements, Calendar, and Syllabus throughout the course.

Module 4: Interacting with Students

Learning Outcomes:

  • identify instructional techniques and management strategies for maximizing online communication.
  • create and manage discussion categories, topics, and messages.
  • view discussion activity reports and grade students' messages.
  • create chat and whiteboard rooms.
  • conduct an effective chat session.
  • explain methods for interacting with students as your course progresses.

Module 5: Managing Students and Grades

Learning Outcomes:

  • explain the available views in the Grade Book.
  • create columns for storing or calculating data.
  • modify column settings.
  • change the Grade Book interface to suit your preferences.
  • add, remove, deny, and grant access to students and auditors in your section.
  • use the PeopleLinks feature to work with an individual member.
  • make grades available to students.
  • enter or override grades and view audit history.
  • generate student tracking reports.

Module 6: Customizing Content Delivery with Selective Release

Learning Outcomes:

  • identify the different options for selectively releasing content.
  • hide/show content items.
  • set release criteria on content items.
